The Robert H. Jackson Center is pleased to welcome the remarkable talent of Living Voices (part of TheatreWorks USA) on Monday, January 31, 2022 to perform "Hear My Voice" in our Cappa Theatre. This live, interactive performance will take the audience on an immersive journey through the incredible story of how women secured the right to vote in the United States. Discover the struggles that finally won half of America's citizens a voice in their own government, as told by Jessie Barclay, a young fictional activist dedicated to women's suffrage in the early 1900s. Performing as Jessie, the Living Voices actress will guide the audience on a decades long path of women who spoke up and took action to demand the right to vote for women.
The program will begin with an overview of relevant historical facts during the early years of the women's suffrage movement to establish a collective understanding of that period in history. Educators are encouraged to click on this Study Guide to prepare students in advance. The curriculum connections include: civil rights, U.S. History, civics/government, women's history, literature, theater, drama, media, television and film. The performances also address the following Common Core Standards: Literacy in History/Social Studies/Speaking & Listening/Reading.
The actor's performance will follow a factual presentation and include documentary video footage from events that occurred during the women's suffrage movement. Following the theatrical performance, the audience will have an opportunity to ask questions. The one-hour event is free, but pre-registration is required due to limited seating capacity. Please note, the Jackson Center will be following all CDC health and safety guidelines in effect at the time of the performance.

Jackson, who served as U.S. Solicitor General, U.S. Attorney General, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, and Chief U.S. Prosecutor of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. Through programs, presentations, exhibits, media, internships, and scholarship, the Center seeks to demonstrate to current and future generations the relevance and applicability of Justice Jackson’s ideas and writings. The Center provides educational content on the United States Constitution and Supreme Court, civil rights, the legacy of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg and international human rights, and the rule of law. During his illustrious career, Justice Jackson addressed these subjects, and the Center recognizes his thinking remains relevant today.
