August 27, 2023 - August 29, 2023

The International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Roundtable is a unique conference featuring the International Prosecutors of the world’s several International Tribunals and foremost experts in International Criminal Law.

Held at the Athenaeum Hotel, the Robert Jackson Center and other venues at the Chautauqua Institution, these event serve as a working retreat for the Prosecutors, students, and VIP guests.  This year, the Roundtable is chaired by Andrew Cayley, former Chief Prosecutor of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

The International Humanitarian Law Roundtable begins Sunday night with a reception at the Jackson Center and celebrates this year’s Heinz Award recipient.

Monday’s agenda includes keynote address, updates from prosecutors and lecture from Ukranian Amb. Anton Korynevych. Breakout session topics include trials in absentia, cyber warfare and vulnerable groups. A dinner follows with a recognition of the 20th anniversary of the indictment of President Charles Taylor.

Tuesday’s proceedings begins with a year in review. The roundtable reconvenes with reports from the previous day’s breakout sessions and presentation of the draft Roundtable Principles document.

The symposium concludes with a cruise on Chautauqua Lake and an informal dinner.
