In November 1945, Justice Robert H. Jackson stood in Courtroom 600 in Nuremberg, Germany, to deliver the Opening Statement at the first International Military Tribunal. Eighty years later, the Robert H. Jackson Center is marking this anniversary with a year-long international symposium, 80 Years of Nuremberg: An International Reflection.
Through a series of monthly programs presented in partnership with institutions around the world, this symposium explores the legacy of the Nuremberg Trials and their continuing relevance to questions of justice, accountability, and human rights today. From the foundations of international criminal law to modern challenges, each program invites reflection on how Nuremberg’s principles can guide us in the 21st century.
Together with scholars, archivists, legal experts, and educators, we will revisit the courtroom where it all began, trace the trials’ global impact, and consider how their lessons remain urgent in our own time.
