On Saturday, May 9, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., the Robert H. Jackson Center will host its first-ever Battle of the Books. Our battle invites any Chautauqua County students in the sixth through eighth grades to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of a pre-selected list of books they have read in preparation for the battle. Student teams earn points by answering questions about the books on the list. At the end of six rounds of questioning, we total the points earned by each team and the team with the most points will win the battle!
The Teacher/Coach of the winning team will receive a gift certificate and each winning team member will receive a $20 gift certificate to the Off The Beaten Path bookstore in Chautauqua County.
Sign your students up today and they will gain knowledge and enjoy a great day of spirited fun, music, snacks and a deep dive into the exciting world of reading!
You may choose your team mascot and/or name and dress up during the competition accordingly. The ideal team size is 5-8 members, but we trust you to find the best mix. Each team may independently decide how many books each team member is responsible for on the book list.
HOW DO I GET THE BOOKS?
The Robert H. Jackson Center has ordered two sets of books for each team. The Teacher/Coach for each team may pick up copies of the books at the Jackson Center from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by appointment. Download the book list below. Please call (716)483-6646 if you have questions.
WHAT IS THE COST?
There is no fee to join the battle, but there is limited availability. Team registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration to participate as a team in the Battle will close once we have eight teams registered for the competition.
