JAMESTOWN, NY, October 16, 2018 – The Robert H. Jackson Center, a non-profit dedicated to promoting liberty under law through the examination of the life and work of Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson and its relevance to current events and issues, is honored to invite three United States District Court Judges from the Western District of New York to take part in a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program on Friday, October 26, 2018. This free event will be held at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown, NY. Robert H. Jackson Center Executive Director Deke Kathman made the announcement.
The Jackson Center will welcome Chief Judge Frank Geraci, Jr., Judge Elizabeth Wolford and Judge Lawrence Vilardo at 1:00 pm to share their insights on best practices in federal court. As U.S. District Court judges, they are often referred to as “Article III judges” because Article III of the Constitution created the Supreme Court and authorized Congress to pass laws to establish a system of lower courts, which include the U.S. Appeals and U.S. District Courts. All Article III judges are nominated by the president of the U.S., confirmed by the Senate and may serve for a lifetime. The district court of the Western District of New York is one of 94 federal district courts in the country established by Article III of the U.S. Constitution. Each state has at least one federal district court and, given the density of its population, New York State has four district courts that are designated by region (i.e. Western, Southern, Northern, Eastern).
Following the judges’ CLE, the center will welcome distinguished attorneys Terrence M. Connors, a partner with Connors, LLP and Rodney O. Personius, a partner with Personius Melber, LLP. Connors has been ranked as the number one lawyer in all upstate New York by Super Lawyers Magazine for the past seven years. Personius is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York and, like Connors, has extensive experience practicing in federal court. The public is encouraged to attend this free event to learn about the unique practice requirements in federal court.
CLE credit information for New York and Pennsylvania is published on the Jackson Center website. Guests are asked to register for the CLE online at www.roberthjackson.org/events, or by calling the Jackson Center at (716)483-6646 by October 22, 2018.
This program is sponsored by the Cattaraugus County Bar Association, Jamestown Bar Association, Northern Chautauqua County Bar Association and The Robert H. Jackson Center Inn of Court.
