JAMESTOWN, NY, (October 16, 2018) – The Robert H. Jackson Center, a non-profit dedicated to promoting liberty under law through the examination of the life and work of Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson and its relevance to current events and issues, is pleased to announce that the Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division, Fourth Department Justices will hear oral arguments in a regular session of Court at the Robert H. Jackson Center on Thursday, October 25, 2018. This free event will be held at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown, NY. Robert H. The opportunity to host a session of court is a unique privilege for the Jackson Center, as the Court has never held a session outside of the courthouse other than at a school of law. Oral arguments will begin at 10:00 A.M. in the Jackson Center’s Cappa Theatre. The public is encouraged to attend this session to witness the interaction between the justices and the skilled attorneys who argue issues of law in appellate court. The bench will include Chief Justice Gerald J. Whalen, Justice Erin M. Peradotto, Justice John M. Curran, Justice Shirley Troutman and Justice Patrick H. NeMoyer. The calendar of cases that will be argued before the Court is posted on the Jackson Center website.
After the court session ends, lunch will be served in the banquet room for all who have registered online or by telephone for the three Continuing Legal Education (CLE) afternoon seminars. The public is welcome to these free information sessions, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged. At 1:00 p.m. will be “A View From the Bench” with Justices Whalen, Peradotto, Curran, Troutman and NeMoyer. This will be followed at 1:30 p.m. with an “Overview of the Attorney Disciplinary Process & Recent Developments” by Chris Lindquist, Principal Appellate Court Attorney. The final session will be a conversation with the Hon. Salvatore R. Martoche on “The Opioid Crisis ― It’s Personal.” CLE credit information for New York and Pennsylvania is published on the Jackson Center website.
