Henry T. King Jr. will be the keynote speaker for Law Day
events on May 1 and 2 at the Robert H. Jackson Center in
Jamestown, according to officials at the Center.
King is a former prosecutor at the Nuremberg War Trials.
‘‘We are indeed fortunate to have a noted speaker of Mr. King’s
caliber to lead our Law Day events,’’ said Greg Peterson, Jackson
Center president.
‘‘Mr. King was with Robert Jackson at Nuremberg and prosecuted
Nazi war criminals in trials subsequent to that (which were) heard by the
International Military Tribunal. His insight from that time will be very relevant
to what we are experiencing today as those accused or war crimes, crimes against
humanity and acts of terror are brought to trial. "’King, a graduate
of Yale College and Yale Law School, is
U.S. director of the Canada/United States Law Institute and is a
professor at Case Western Reserve University School of
Law. He is counsel to the law firm Squire, Sanders and Dempsey in
Cleveland and is the author of many legal articles and a book,
The Two Worlds of Albert Speer, which is based on his experiences
in Nuremberg. King is a member of several national and international law
associations and served on the American Bar Association’s
Task Force on the war crimes in the former Yugoslavia.
In addition, he is the subject of a documentary being made by
Laufer Film, which features his work at Nuremberg and his
experiences interviewing Speer, a defendant at the trial.
‘‘There is probably nothing in my professional life that
influenced me more than my work at Nuremberg and the
exposure I had to the new principles of international law that
were established by Justice Jackson,’’ King said. ‘‘The
Jamestown community is fortunate to have a ‘favorite son’
who did so much for his country and the world during his
lifetime. I intend to address these issues when I come to speak for the Law
Day events.’’ Peterson also announced that King has agreed to
become a
member of a ‘‘Board of Senior Advisers’’ at the Jackson
Center.
‘‘We hope to recruit several individuals with Henry King’s
kind of experience and background to serve on this board,’’
Peterson said. ‘‘Our Board of Senior Advisers will give us
guidance and advice as we begin to grow the Robert Jackson Center
into the kind of world-class institution that we know it can
become.’’ Mr. King will speaking at 9 a.m. May 1 before several
classes of high school students at the Jackson Center and will
be addressing a legal symposium sponsored by the Jamestown Bar Association
at 7 p.m. that day.
The second event in the Law Day program is at 7 p.m. Wednesday
and features Henry T. King Jr., a prosecutor with Justice Jackson at the Nuremberg
Trial. He will be making the featured address.
Professor John Q. Barrett, D’Addario and other officials will be participating
in
the program. For more information about the programs,
