The Scottish Rite Masons of the Valley of Jamestown are
sponsoring the Robert H. Jackson essay contest for the second
consecutive year.
The contest is open to all seventh- and eighth-graders throughout
the Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Masonic Districts. Essay contest
packets have been delivered to 38 middle schools in the two
county area. The purpose of the contest is to enlighten students
about the life and work of Jackson, a Supreme Court justice and
chief prosecutor at the Nuremberg War Crimes trails after World
War II, and his contribution to the legal system and society.
The Masons hope the winning students will be recognized by William Rehnquist,
chief justice of the United States, when he visits Jamestown on May 16 for
the Jackson Center dedication. The essay reviewing committee
members are: Kathleen Crocker, H. James Abdella,
Richard Kimball and Willard Anderson.
All entries must be submitted to middle school teachers in time for entries
to be postmarked by April 11.
