“That four great nations, flushed with victory and stung with injury stay the hand of vengeance and voluntarily submit their captive enemies to the judgment of the law is one of the most significant tributes that Power has ever paid to Reason.” — from Jackson's Opening Statement before the International Military Tribunal

Senator McGee Sponsors State Grant for Jackson Center

October 22, 2002
For Immediate Release:

State Senator Patricia McGee today visited the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown and announced her support for a capital construction program now underway at the Center.

“All of us in the community have been watching the fast start made by the Robert H. Jackson Center,” Senator McGee said. “Here is an organization barely two years old which has taken an old mansion, converted its use, invested over $600,000 in improvements and has embarked on some exceptional programming. Supreme Court Robert Jackson was first and foremost a country lawyer from upstate New York who, through discipline and hard work, made it to the top of his profession. His example and ideas are still relevant for today’s generation and all New Yorkers can benefit from the legacy he left. I believe that the Robert H. Jackson Center can become another magnet for people visiting the Jamestown area and I am pleased to be able to support it.”

Senator McGee announced that through her sponsorship of New York State Community Capital Assistant Program (C-CAP) funds, that $100,000 will be coming to the Jackson Center so that its building program can continue. The announcement was made at the Center during a visit by Mrs. Wilson’s Washington Middle School Classes. “This is what the Jackson Center is all about,” Senator McGee said. “Here we have young people learning about Justice Jackson and applying what he taught to issues they see in their own world today. My hope is that the Jackson Center can begin to have an impact like this all across New York State.”

Rolland Kidder, Executive Director of the Jackson Center, said that the support of Senator McGee would extend the construction work now being undertaken at the Jackson Center. “This is the first grant that we have received from any governmental source,” Kidder said. “We salute Senator McGee for having the vision and foresight to help get this organization off the ground. Because of her support, we will be able to continue our Phase II reconstruction program which will include the installation of new energy efficient windows and the construction of a handicapped accessible entrance to the building. All of this will make the Jackson Center a better place for the community and public to use. We are gratified by this investment being made by the people of New York State.”
